Transformation Thursday: Week 4

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Both Nick and I had long weekends and with our big move just days away we used the extra time to finish up our outstanding orders and knock out a few lingering projects!
A few weeks ago we purchased this bookcase at auction. It was missing it's shelves and had a few bumps and bruises. Nick had a vision for it (not gonna lie... I didn't!) and scooped it up for a great price. Here's the before picture:
First things first, we removed the flimsy, vaneer backing, pulled out the drawers and removed the hardware. Poor guy looks naked now!

Next we patched up the holes and dings in the wood. There was once adjustable shelving in this guy, so we had lots of holes to fill with wood putty!

There was an amazing Buy-One-Get-One-Free deal on our favorite brand on paint at our local True Value store. So we stocked up! I thought it'd be fun to try out some new colors. This one is "Sea Turtle!"

Rather than putting the vaneer covered cardboard backing back on (togue twister!), Nick added a new panelled backing to go with the new shelves. We prestained the wood in Minwax's Dark Walnut before installing.

We replaced the hardware, distressed it a little bit, added a few coats of spray on poly and ta-da!

Here's the side by side transformation--
I was super excited when the piece sold in one day! Such a great feeling.
Our "break" officially starts Sunday when we start moving! Not exactly a vacation, but I'll take it.  I'm hoping it won't take us long to get settled and reorganized in our new house/garage. We have big plans for our new 2 car garage, which I'll be sure to share with you later. Thanks for being patient with us and willing to wait a little bit longer on your orders.
Happy Treasure Hunting,
